From what I have heard it was done like Titan AE with rotoscoping filming live actors making movements and tracing over them. The studio released a direct to DVD sequel to Anastasia concentrated on Bartok the albino bat and soon would release rofoscope final nail in the coffin Titan A.
It was definitely money well spent. That said I have no real nostalgia for the film, so I come from a purely fresh standpoint. The second time, I was bored to tears.
