User Review – Flag as inappropriate This book was really touching. I would highly recommend this book. This was compulsive, if unpleasant, reading. And when the first person she meets turns out to be Beck, who rules her new school with a mixture of intimidation and outright violence, she is dismayed.

Just one gripe though – where were all the teachers at the school while the fights etc were going on? A girl trying to muddle through high school and the dilemma of which side of the line was better to be on: Dec 19, Ashley rated it it was ok Shelves: Unsure of herself and merely trying to fit in, Zoe is initiated, painfully, into the Beckoners, a twisted group of mvoie whose main purpose is to stay on top by whatever means necessary.

The same well meaning adults decided she’d catch her death out there. The characters are very believable and “Dog” is such a sad teen. Maybe I just grew up in a nice little happy bubble with nice bullies?

It’s like a modern Lord of the Flies, about bullying and bad parenting and reality. So even novie it sounded good, I’d end up reading something else I got at the same time.

I really liked this book, but I think that the twist at the end was very unrealistic and that detracts from the teaching quality of this book for teens facing bullying problems. It’s a wonderful book, two thumbs up. I think that this book was a bit slow in the beginning, but towards the middle of the book it got more interesting.

Carrie Mac’s first novel. A chilling portrait of the bullying and violence that is all too common in schools, The Beckoners illustrates the lure of becoming tormentor rather than victim, and the terrible price that can be exacted for standing up for what is right.

Zoe kind of falls into this vicious clique or small gang, whichever you prefer called, you guessed it, The Beckoners.

Beckoers sounded great to me. It was so grungy and grimy and sad and brutal and depressing and just all around After breaking into an amusement park and being savaged by a police dog, he is befriended by a paramedic. Henley, the English teacher, has an anonymous essay contest to pick the next editor of the paper, April wins. I was recommended this book for a essay I was doing at school, so when Becckoners picked it up I had no idea what I was getting into. She constantly imagines the worst, composes obituaries in her head, and is always ready for things to fall apart.

I’m not entirely comfortable with the ending, but overall, highly recommended for young adult readers. The Beckoners Teen fiction.

The beckoners essay

This is one of those books I’ve picked up several times at the library, but never opened it because I’d never heard of it. Who movif ever be a teenager again?

It syncs automatically with your jovie and allows you to read online or offline wherever you are. Hope it’s not like any of the students’ sitting in my classes either. But movir me the almost trite resolution seemed out of place in a novel so fierce in its unflinching look at teen violence — how savage, tribal and unrelenting it has become. This story is brutal, horrifying in places, and believable think Reena Virk.
